Our attorneys’ unique paths to our firm allow us, as a whole, to work as a full-service law firm with a distinctly boutique approach. Because of our focus on entrepreneurs, we have been able to forge creative solutions for the specific issues that our clientele encounter. Whether seeking full outside counsel or individualized project advice, we have the corporate, tax, and intellectual property specialists—just to name a few—to get the right solution to our clients.
As a high-tech enthusiast I am for over 20 years advising start-up companies in various fields of technology. Starting with the incorporation of the right “legal vehicle” up to the protection of intellectual property, generating financing until a successful “exit” I am helping high-tech companies in various stages of their “lifetime”.
I am also an investor in various start-up companies in the Life Sciences field, in the IT sector and in other high-tech areas. Success as a start-up company is based on taking (controlled) risks, adventurous approaches and an un-resting entrepreneurial spirit.
As these ingredients have been the elixir for my life it is only natural to help, support and advise those in the high-tech industry with splendid new ideas and having the same “life blood”.
Let’s make it happen.
There is nothing I love more than seeking out international opportunities. My passion for crossing borders led me to study in Germany, France and the United States. It brought me to Luxembourg, where I first worked in private equity and advised on a number of international investments. Back in Germany, I now particularly focus on venture capital transactions, using my international experience and passion for cross-border activities in order to help bring together national and international investors and company founders. Be it in Germany or abroad, I help businesses find the opportunities that will let them thrive in an international economy. Whether you are a founder or an investor, I looking forward to supporting your (portfolio) company in growing to its full potential.
I have thought about setting up a business quite often in my life. Eventually I became a lawyer, practicing in global firms for more than two decades—probably because I am even better at advising and guiding others pursuing their ideas. I grew during the “dotcom boom” of the late nineties, and although venture technology has had its ups and downs since then, I never stopped engaging in this area.
Following this inclination, I am in essence an intellectual property and litigation/arbitration lawyer, advising clients from various industries on the digitization of their business, and representing them in disputes before ordinary courts of law and arbitral tribunals in IP and commercial matters.
My passion is helping technology companies of all sizes get funded and grow their businesses. I have nurtured many companies through the whole funding cycle—from seed and angel investment, VC and private equity, to IPOs on the TSX, Nasdaq and AIM. I have had lots of funny experiences and made many lifelong friends in the process. My work has covered every technology sector, including hardware, software (especially SaaS), digital media, life sciences and innovation in healthcare.
I have a special interest in business model development in highly regulated sectors, including influencing the creation of new regulations and public policies.
Working with startups is very energizing. One of my latest projects is working in the emerging legal tech area in a few capacities—as an advisor, investor and contributor to product development. It has been great to see my worlds converge—startups, technology and law.
Innovative risk takers. Passionate disrupters. Big thinking challengers. Unrelentingly bullish. Us, them– one and the same.
It has been great working with tech entrepreneurs globally. It is totally exhilarating guiding startups and expansion stage companies strategically whether they are in SoHo New York, Mitte Berlin, SOMA San Francisco, Shoreditch London, Zhongguancun Beijing and beyond.
And doing this all on a global stage is extraordinary as it brings a certain world view to the table. Combining the best of Silicon Valley with local markets and sensibilities clients benefit from this breadth and perspective. Especially when we leverage the network.
Other passions? Windsurfing. Cycling. Another one of those passions. Family and friends and their narratives, another. Innovation, still yet another. Let’s connect.
I have provided intellectual property and fund raising strategies to disruptive high growth businesses for more than 20 years. Whilst every business is unique the opportunities in fast moving technologies have been staggering and the lessons learned on such journeys have proved invaluable. As a patent attorney and investor with a strategic global viewpoint, my role is to work closely with founders and c-suite execs all over the world to design and implement global IP strategies that are proportionate and yet capable of putting businesses in command of the sectors they are disrupting. There are many challenges and obstacles to getting this right but with quality data and smart decision making around IP, doing business becomes less risky and the IP generated provides significant value and commercial leverage with all types of external parties. Teaching businesses how to build IP asset value and use IP as a tool to deliver commercial objectives is core to what I do. I am also a partner in a Venture Capital Fund and so I have seen first hand how world class IP can influence commercial deals, trigger exits and underpin company valuations. No question too small because it is never too late to begin getting things on track.
Having studied in Germany, Spain and the US, I am supporting emerging growth companies to grow locally and globally. My team and I are passionate about technology and the innovative challenges that come with it. We are well connected with our Venture Technology team worldwide. We will provide you with the right support and guidance to turn your innovation into business and help make your ideas a success.
Entering or even creating new markets with disruptive technologies is like sailing rough waters. You have to know your goal to find out which winds may bring you there – and be aware of tacking at the right moment to stay ahead of your competitors. Let’s connect – and never stop exploring!
My core strength is as a pragmatic, savvy legal business partner for tech companies in Silicon Valley and worldwide. I have the heart of an engineer and can work through any complex corporate and tech transactions. My value prop is to help companies design, protect and execute key strategies so they can reach their objectives and avoid pitfalls along the way. I’m a DIY enthusiast who welds and woodworks when not hiking or serving up custom cocktails for my friends.
The magic of technology is that it transcends borders. Fintech, online platforms, social media and mobile content mushroom through entrepreneurial initiatives and constantly challenge status quo. As a corporate lawyer in Asia, in particular Hong Kong, Dentons’ VTG group enables me to share our clients’ vision, through our global reach and ability to access expertise across incredibly diverse geographies. We execute key strategies and put through corporate transactions, paving the way for solid but flexible growth and the achievement of success.
Stuff that I like?
…. my wardrobe of traditional Chinese dresses
…. roaming antique furniture stores
…. good food with friends
…. theatre and music – absolutely – Elton John and Chopin are favorites.
Working with startups and high growth companies is the most rewarding part of my job–connecting key persons in the ecosystem from incubators, angels and VCs, to institutions, private equity and ultimately the public markets.
I’ve worked extensively with companies and entrepreneurs across the digital technology and media sectors at all stages of the development cycle, both in the UK and cross-border. By raising finance, teaming with the right strategic partner, overseas expansion or acquiring the right target, I’ve helped new entrants capitalise on an evolving trend with a disruptive business model and large corporations take traditional media into the digital age.
I love the outdoors and am a keen rugby fan – not playing anymore, the knocks hurt too much these days! Now I’m more likely to be found hiking with my wife and our pet beagle, with a bit of cycling in between–that is, when I’m not tinkering with my classic (read “unreliable”?) car – a 1973 Triumph GT6 in British racing green of course!
